This October, we hosted a University tour in Bermuda - bringing students face-to-face with representatives from top global universities who visited schools and then interacted with families at our event at BUEI. This year’s event featured institutions from the United Kingdom, including Plymouth, Stirling, and Loughborough, as well as IE University in Spain, where courses are taught in English. Students and families had the chance to explore exciting opportunities and gain insights into what studying abroad could mean for their future. With the prospect of lower tuition costs when compared to other jurisdictions parents were also able to gain an understanding of how they could best invest in their children's future.
For those who couldn’t make it, we want to share some highlights and encourage you to stay in touch for our upcoming events! Subscribe to our newsletter to receive updates on our partner universities, along with helpful articles to support families as we approach the UCAS application deadline in late January.
The Beginning of the University Tour
We began our tour by arranging multiple engagements to connect with families and this culminated in our University event at BUEI. On Day 1 - October 3rd - we started with a radio interview on Ocean 89 with representatives from Loughborough and Plymouth, where they shared valuable information about their universities. Later that day, we visited Cedarbridge Academy and Bermuda High School, meeting with students and counselors to explore academic pathways. We ended the day with a visit to Bermuda College to discuss access ways for students who wish to transition to further education opportunities abroad and how they could transfer credits as part of possible articulation agreements.
On Day 2, IE and Stirling representatives joined the Captain for a second Ocean 89 radio interview, sharing insights about their institutions. Afterward, the representatives visited Warwick Academy, Mount Saint Agnes, Saltus Grammar, and Somersfield Academy.
We were able to speak with over 200 students on the island, as well as counselors from these schools. These visits provided an opportunity to directly introduce the universities, allowing us to learn about the students’ interests while also helping counselors support students as they consider studying abroad.
Highlights from the University Event on October 5th
1. Opening Seminar: Exploring the Benefits of Studying Abroad
The event began with a seminar where university representatives shared the unique offerings and strengths of their institutions, providing an overview of each university’s facilities, programs, and campus highlights. Representatives also discussed the benefits of studying abroad, such as exposure to diverse perspectives, building independence, and accessing international job markets. Additionally, they provided guidance on the application process, including key information about UCAS- important dates, and how the system works—details many attendees were keen to understand. The university representatives were able to show case the variety of institutions that the UK has to offer - from the city to coastal or inland campuses - students and parents are given a diverse offering which can suit many different needs. They were also able to communicate with parents on the value for money that UK institutions offer - as many are eligible for domestic tuition costs as opposed to having to pay international tuition fees.
2. One-on-One Advice and Application Support
After the seminar, students and families had the opportunity for one-on-one conversations with the university representatives. These sessions allowed families to ask questions, gain insights into various programs, and learn what each university looks for in an ideal applicant.
Our goal is to empower students with the resources they need to make informed decisions. Representatives offered advice on how to stand out in applications, including tips on writing personal statements, gathering recommendation letters, and navigating application systems used by UK and European universities. Families and students left feeling more prepared and confident about the application process.
